Momcozy V1 Pro Review

I have a lot to say about this pump, so I’m going to start with this, the Momcozy V1 Pro is a secondary pump. Is this a negative statement? Not a chance, but it needs to be front and center because I want you to know what you’re getting yourself into. So let me get into the nuts and bolts why the V1 Pro has the potential to be a mobile option for you.

Let’s get something straight, any in your bra mobile pump or cup will always be a secondary option. Based on my personal experience, community response and client use, anything that’s 100% in your bra has a less likely chance of “emptying you” like a well fitted flange. Not only does a fitted flange properly seated on the breast have the best reputation for adequate removal but these flanges also leave room for hands on massaging. So if you’re a handsy mom, no matter which mobile or secondary pump you choose- you may want to leave the cups out of your bra for best removal for those most important sessions.

The Momcozy V1 Pro comes with plastic flange cups, this pump screams secondary in every way. Possibly the most portable feature of this pump is how quiet it is, she purrs like a kitten, that’s no exaggeration. If silence is what you’re looking for, I’m not sure you’ll find anything more quiet than this.

So let’s talk about this pump. Is it effective? I can’t say that it isn’t. I’ve definitely been able to move milk, that first let-down hasn’t been an issue. Problem for me has been getting consistent subsequent let-downs, let-downs I know I’m waiting on. But I think it’s real fair to mention- this issue happens while using my preferred hack (using flanges) - Check out this post to see more about the hack here... Cups aside, hacking the V1 Pro with my regular hack has been a problem while pumping in the expression mode. I find the milk doesn’t release beyond the duckbill fast enough or if the suction strength is elevated, it doesn’t release at all. This is a huge issue because even though milk is being removed best in this mode it’s backing up behind the duckbill and eventually entering the back flow protector. Yes the backflow protector is doing its job but this isn’t ideal and definitely not good for business. It’s not until I change the mode to mixed mode does all the milk release into the flange/bottle cup- remember this is happening with my preferred hack. That said, considering this error is happening with a hack and not the provided cups, it may never be an issue for you. But it’s fair to mention because you all know how much I love hacks and I want to be sure to stay crystal clear on this one.

Hacking my V1 Pro with my silicone flange set up

Okay back to the pump! This pump offers your three general modes: stimulation, expression and mixed. Something more this pump offers is the ability to toggle cycle speeds- L, M or H. I think it’s pretty cool that this option was built into this motor, unlike other pumps that offer preset cycle speeds, you will be able to tell these apart. For such a little pump it really does offer a nice variety of suction strength and speeds.

Now let’s dive into the cups + the pump, what you’re actually receiving upon an order. Above I said I have issues getting subsequent let-downs with my flanges. But am I having the same issue with the cups? Nope! I firmly believe these cups and the V1 Pro were made for each other, I mean they kinda are right? They pair very well together and as I’m finding the more I use this set up, minus my hack, I have a pretty good milk output and response! This set up really has surprised me, I can’t say I’ll be reaching for it as a regular stand in but I think it’s a good option.

After using the V1 Pro cups I was able to move 2 more ounces with my Baby Buddha

So you might be wondering, why would I try my hack with the V1 Pro if the cups work so well? I like to try the pump components separately and then bring them back together to see if I’m having issues with either one, so which is the actual issue. I like to see how they work independently and hacked! So for this combination I’m going to say, yes you can hack this pump with different flanges but completely out of character, I’m not sure I’d recommend it. I’ve grown impressed by this pump and the cups and how comfortable, quiet and effective they are at moving milk.

How about these cups with .. let’s say the BabyBuddha pump!? These cups function and feel best while just staying in expression mode minus the long pull. Between having elastic tissue and these plastic flanges I NEED to slow it down with the Baby Buddha, I live and die by that long pull but with these cups, not so much. While typing this up I noticed that ole' righty was pulling pretty far into my flange in the long pull mode which caused slight discomfort, even with the cushions I love so much. Miss Lefty, rockin' the Elvie cushion, has been sitting pretty for the most part but definitely prefers the expression mode (minus the long pull). My opinion on using these cups with another pump, it'll work!

My thoughts are a little everywhere, but as I’ve said- I have a lot I’d like to say about this pump. So let’s talk about nipple alignment and design of said cups. Momcozy did an excellent job on redesigning these cups from the V1 and V2 (not pro version) pumps. These cups are far more comfortable  and the fact that they have a plug is the icing on the cake for me. The original V1 and V2 cups had silicone flanges but I did not care for them- even with add-ons; cushions or inserts- they still never felt right. This redesign has been excellent, even thought I don’t care for plastic flanges, I can throw some cushions in these babies and ultimately I’m good to go!

We listen and we don’t judge, Momcozy has been listening that’s for sure and they sure are judging. They’re taking tips out of everyone’s playbook and coming in hot for world domination. They’re not far from it either. They’re listening and they’re judging hard, judging how they’re going to design their next pump! These cups are fish tanks for your boobs, super easy for alignment. Once you start your pump you can easily look down into the cup and verify you’re hitting center, it’s genius. You know who else they listened and quietly and judged, Elvie. The tube and hockey puck like suction caps are right from Elvie’s Stride design. Simple and effective. This is not a pump comparison but if you ask me, Momcozy did a far better job with the V1 Pro when compared to the Elvie Stride motor. Hands down, more modes, levels and options.

Pour Spout with weep hole for vent

If you’ve read my Momcozy M6 and M9 reviews you’ve already been introduced to the breast pump cushions that have been deal breakers while using both of those pumps. Since the cups that pair with the V1 Pro are also plastic, and I have elastic tissue- these cushions are front and center again. I cannot get comfortable with the plastic but add in the cushions and I’m on cloud nine.

The profile of these cups are a little bulbous and I think kind of look funny in my bra because they perk out. But they are designed to hold 7 ounces, which the option to fill up a bit more around 7.5. The real down side to these cups is the fact that the backflow protector is actually one with the cup. So there’s no replacing a single backflow protector. You’ll need to replace be whole front half of the cup, the shell, for $16. Other than the obvious, the price, I’m also bummed out on how much landfill that adds up to. I’m not a wasteful person and this is a bit disappointing.

Backflow Protector is built into the cup. only loose item in these cups are the duckbill

Testing the cups out with the Baby Buddha for final thoughts

Do I recommend this pump? I certainly think it’s a contender! The thing about this set-up, if you’re looking for a primary- this isn’t it. If you’re looking for a primary pump to hack with flanges, I’ve already shared above how it doesn’t pair too well with my preferred hack. So this presents an issue on leaning into this as a primary option. Like I shared in the first paragraph, this is a secondary pump- so if you’re looking for a secondary in your bra.. I’m sorry but if it’s in the budget I would recommend the Momcozy M5 or.. OR! hear me out- the Momcozy Air 1 or as I like to call them the A1. The review is coming on this brand new set so if you’re not in a hurry- sit tight!

End of story, the V1 Pro is a good set, if you can snag a pair for a decent price - you have my blessing. But I do think considering all options out there now- especially when looking at the Momcozy inventory, they have a lot of options and I just don’t think this is a leading contender when up against the M5 or A1.
