What fun would it be if a company only offered one pump option? The more the merrier, amiright? Meh, I don’t know about all of that. I mean give me a few options but lord help me if I need to sift through five plus pumps! This review will be plucking out the Momcozy Mobile Style™ M6, giving you the run down on my tried and true thoughts. As most of you may know I am a through and through silicone flange lover, that’s why this pump, oddly, has to be reported from two sides of the coin…
Momcozy has a lot going on, first the M5, then M6 (Mobile Style), and then M9,and yes there are even more! However, these three stand out and are all equally different then the next. This isn’t a comparison, as I’ve mentioned above but it’s only fair to quickly mention some major differences from one to the next.
Momcozy M5
Silicone flange, from the connection that attaches to the collection cup down to within the flange tunnel. Compact round design, fits well in bra, no Bluetooth technology, has timer and 3 modes. Pour from top of cup, open to atmosphere design.
Momcozy M9
Motor sits on collection cup, think- Elvie, Zomee Fit. Plastic flange with about 1” of silicone for seal on breast, tunnel is plastic. Bluetooth compatible.
Now for the Momcozy M6 (Mobile Style), what we are all here for.
This pump is a mix of both the M5 and M9 but will be the clear winner for those who prefer plastic flanges. Where to start... Let’s begin with the most obvious for me, the flanges. Flanges are most times the deal breaker, either you love 'em, or hate 'em. I do not like these flanges. Why? Well, they’re plastic. I had someone in my DMs tell me, “I have this pump and they’re absolutely silicone flanges.” To that I say, no they’re not.
Similarly to the M9, they have a plastic outside shell of a flange where the containers connect, then there’s this silicone area of the flange that acts as a seal on the breast. This silicone seal on the flange is only for about 1” of the flange and then the remainder of the flange tunnel is, in fact, plastic. Choosing some parts of a flange to make silicone does not constitute an actual silicone flange. When the tunnel - the part of the flange that actually takes in the nipple for milk removal - is silicone, then we have a silicone flange.
I want to toss in why I don't care for plastic flanges. Two words: Elastic Nipples. Thats right, you heard it here, I have elastic tissue and plastic just doesn't not compliment any flange for my use. I find that silicone has a better grip, hold, control on my breast tissue opposed to plastic that just does a hurtin' on my nipples. I find the plastic allows too much motion in the flange for my tissue. I know what you're thinking- Kristen, you must have the wrong size flange, size down! I can use the same size flange in both silicone and plastic and very obviously feel the difference, so no, with all due respect, it's not a size issue, it's totally a material issue.
With all this said in regards to the flange is the one factor that has me using the M6 for a reduced amount of time, each time I go to test it. I find these flanges super pinchy. The pinch comes from within the tunnel, nothing to do with the flange surface. I don’t think I’ve made it more than 10 minutes at a time before having to turn them off and finish with either my silicone flanges or M5. I recently jumped from the M6 right to the M5, because why not, and lord have mercy, night and day difference. As I have mentioned, I have elastic tissue and have been using silicone flanges for 6 years, there’s only been two plastic flanges I find comfortable: the Medela collection cups and Willow Go mobile pumps. So do I think this flange is going to fail everyone? Absolutely not. There are still plenty of moms who don’t like silicone and ask for an alternative to the M5. The need for a plastic option is still very much a demand. In my opinion the M6 is the answer to this request.
Let’s jump to the other side of the coin, probably about one week after I wrote that above entry of this blog I found myself in a pickle and the only available option was the M6...
Scene 🎬
It was thanksgiving morning, we were hustling to get out of the house, and I needed a pump to bring on the road! To my dismay the M6 was the only pump cleaned and assembled on my countertop. Beggars can’t be choosers, so I grabbed this pump, my Mimi and Pal pump bag, and ran out of the house. About one hour into my turkey day visit I needed to pump, oh god, it was time to use the M6. As I popped these in my bra and turned to the preferred mode - expression - I began feeling that pinch again. Since I was at the mercy of this pump I knew I had to do something, but whether it would work or not, I was unsure. So I reached into my bra and turned down the suction of the pump. Honestly I could hardly feel it but it didn’t hurt, so I threw that thanksgiving Hail Mary 🏈 and let it ride for 30 minutes. I tell no lies, I was very pleasantly surprised. I had a fabulous session! Did I leave milk behind, we will never know but I do know what I had pumped made me smile and rethink this pump for the better.
So now you may ask, okay Kris, so what’s the point here? How do you feel about this pump and this flange you just talked negatively about in 2 paragraphs above? I still feel this pump isn't for me. I still find the pinch a real issue, because they’re plastic. But I also still believe and would recommend this pump for plastic users. I didn’t particularly like these but in a pinch (no pun intended) they worked well and I’m grateful for that.
Back to the Original Entry...
Putting the flanges aside, the motor sure is effective. Even though I find these flanges aren’t ideal for my use, I can still move a fair amount of milk thanks to the motor. There are three modes, similar to the M5, or any of the other Momcozy pumps, or for that matter most pumps on the market nowadays. More recently having three modes has become the norm: stimulation, expression and mixed mode- one mode incorporating the two other modes. This helps reduce the need to physically change modes based on let down activity. I have never been much of a fan of this mode until the Eufy S1 Pro, but I will still ride out the expression mode 100% of the time while using any Momcozy pump.
Construction and ability to preform.
If there’s anything I’d take away from the M6 and apply it to the M5, that would be how the cup and flange fit together. The flange fits into the outer cup, which I love. It locks into place and then snaps closed. Can this design work with the M5? Probably not unless you make the rim of the two closures plastic then transition to silicone, but I don’t think Momcozy has this on their radar so we may only be seeing this locking concept with the M6 unfortunately.
The actual assembly of the M6 is pretty simple, too. Due to the locking design there’s no aligning the backflow protector because it can only lock one way - and seats the rest of the cup. It’s awesome, I’m very happy with this detail of the M6.
Using the motor is pretty straight forward, not a whole lot to add here. Easy to use, visible timer and not super loud.
Overall the construction of this pump is pretty well done. The contour and body of the pump fits well in most bras, no steep angles, at all. While taking the motor off the body of the pump, you’re left with a small nipple which inserts into the bottom of the pump that feeds into the backflow protector, creating suction. Why is this worth mentioning? Because the Eufy S1 Pro design is a little different and sometimes the motor pulls out the backflow protector when disassembling the two, which I find annoying but not a deal breaker. Just know with the M5 or M6 you don’t have to worry about that issue, the motor and cups are pretty well isolated from each other.
I know this wasn’t meant to be a comparison but it would be a disservice if I didn’t throw a few extras to help dial in point while sharing different aspects of this pump.
Okay, okay, if you’re a plastic flange candidate then you have my blessing on the Momcozy Mobile Style M6. If you happen to find them pinchy like me, turn down the suction. If you still prefer silicone over plastic, I’d recommend the Momcozy M5 or Eufy S1 Pro with Heat Flow technology. Check out reviews on those pumps below.
On December 5, 2024 I polled the community their thoughts on the Momcozy M6, I hope you find the results at least a little helpful! I think it's hard to conclude a real answer here- my takeaway is most moms are now using silicone flanges. If you're a silicone user, you'll likely not care for these pumps.
