Milk collection cups can be so handy for breastfeeding mothers (especially in the early days of breastfeeding when your milk production hasn't quite regulated yet.) They can also be helpful for mothers with a high milk supply or strong letdown on both sides. Both the Hakaa and the Save the Milk Pump Pod are popular silicone collection cup options.
Similarities:
- Food Grade Silicone: Both products are made from this food-safe, easy-to-clean material.
- Suction Attachment: Both pumps function by creating a suction seal between the silicone pump and your breast.
- Volume Indicator: Both feature volume indicator lines (in ounces) that make it easy to know how much milk you've collected.
Differences:
- Comfortability: Personally, I found the Save The Milk Pod way more comfortable! When the Hakaa creates suction, it encompasses a lot of the breast tissue (not just the nipple.) For some mamas, myself included, this can be painful. The Save The Milk Pod, on the other hand, just suctions the nipple (similar to a breast pump) and is a lot more comfortable.
- Sizing: The Hakaa is a one-size-fits-all all option. The Save The Milk Pod has custom sizing options. The stands Pod comes in the 24 mm size, but they have multiple inserts that can be purchased separately for women who need something smaller.
Final Thoughts...
I truly do like both the Hakaa and The Save The Milk Pod. However, they really are night and day different when it comes to comfort. For me, The Save The Milk Pod is the easy, no-brainer option.
